Use the skill, then click a corpse.  If successful, you will get an informational message about the circumstances surrounding the demise (including the names of people who have disturbed the corpse.)

Forensics Evaluation can also be used on living characters to detect thieves.  Upon a successful identification, you will be notified if your target is in the Thieves guild.

After a set skill level you may reverse the effects of the disguise kit when using the skill on a member of the theives guild who is disguised.
